Household Solutions That You Can Use To Treat Bronchitis

Bronchitis happens when viruses or bacteria or particles cause inflammation or infection in the bronchial tubes.

Symptoms include coughing with mucus, having a hard time breathing, experiencing chest pains and/or congestion of the nasal passage, being exhausted, experiencing muscle pain, and having the flu. Bronchitis can be severe and recurring.

1. Ginger

This is a popular treatment for the sniffles, but it is also effective against bronchitis. Its anti-inflammatory and it can fortify one’s immunity which makes it good for relieving affected areas.

Mix half teaspoons of ground ginger, cinnamon and cloves in a cup of hot water. Make sure it’s mixed well. Consume the drink for a couple of days.

Boil water and pour it into a cup. Add teaspoons of ginger (powdered) and black pepper. Wait for a couple of minutes before adding honey. Consume this two times daily.

Mix teaspoons of ginger (powdered), pepper and cloves with honey or milk. Consume this thrice daily.

2. Garlic

Garlic is great against bronchitis, even severe cases because of its antibiotic and antiviral qualities.

Try peeling and chopping a couple of garlic cloves. Add them in a glass of milk before boiling. Consume this in the evening before you sleep.

3. Turmeric

Turmeric is potent against the cough that comes with bronchitis.

Mix a teaspoon of turmeric (powdered) into a glass of milk before boiling it. Consume this twice or thrice daily. If you want it to take effect sooner, drink it before you’ve eaten anything.

Don’t drink this mixture if you have problems with your gall bladder, especially stones. It’s also not recommended for those with hyperacidity, ulcers and obstructive jaundice.

4. Eucalyptus Oil

Inhaling steam with eucalyptus oil is good for curing bronchitis. It can loosen up the mucus. And because it’s potent against bacteria, it helps heal damaged parts of your body.

Boil water and mix in a couple of drops of the oil. Breathe in the steam. Try covering your head with a towel. If you don’t have eucalyptus oil, pine or tea tree oils will do.

You can also try applying the oil to the chest area for respiratory relief and aiding in the expulsion of mucus..

5. Salt Water

A great way to seek relief from the irritating effects of bronchitis is to gargle water mixed with salt a number of times daily. Just mix in a teaspoon of salt to a glass of warm water.

But use the correct amount of salt. A lot can make you uncomfortable, whilst too little would have little-to-no effect. Try gargling as often as it takes. This is for soothing your sore throat and cutting through the mucus causing the soreness.

6. Honey

Mix in a teaspoon to a cup of tea. This is good for those who have bronchitis.

7. Onions

These relieve those with bronchitis by dissolving mucus and phlegm. In juice form, it can stop the building up of mucus and phlegm.

Drink a teaspoon daily, in the mornings before eating anything should do the trick.

You can also mix in raw onions to salads or cooked dishes.

8. Epsom Salt

Bathing in this can relieve a person of the symptoms of bronchitis, acute or otherwise.

Add a couple of pounds of the salt to warmed water for bathing. Immerse yourself in it for thirty minutes. For those with recurring bronchitis, we recommend doing this two times weekly. For severe bronchitis, nightly.

9. Sesame Seeds

These particular seeds are useful in treating bronchitis and relieving chest pain.

Mix teaspoons of the sesame seeds, lin/flaxseed, and honey, and a dash of salt. Consume it nightly before you sleep.

Also try mixing half a teaspoon of dried sesame seed powder and two spoons of water. Drink it two times a day.

10. Water

This is common sense. Keep yourself hydrated. This keeps coughs productive.

The recommended amount is eight to ten glasses a day. Fresh fruit or veggie juice can also be helpful. To start the day, try drinking water with juice from half of a lime. Add a bit of honey as well.

Of course, caffeinated or alcoholic beverages are no-no’s. They can dehydrate you, and in turn make your mucus and phlegm more difficult to get rid of.
